Our client is a clinical-stage biotechnology company decoding biology by integrating technological innovations across biology, chemistry, automation, data science, and engineering, with the goal of radically improving the lives of patients and industrializing drug discovery.
Our client uses a suite of custom software, algorithms, and machine learning to explore foundational biology unconstrained by human bias and navigate to new biological insights.
They are a biotechnology company scaling more like a technology company.
They have their own supercomputer (Ranked in the Top60 of most powerful in the world according to the TOP500 list), as well as access to ample cloud resources.
•Work with senior leadership to set and direct a long-term machine learning research plan aligned with the mission and making use of 8+ Petabytes of proprietary biological data and its ability to generate much, much more
•Recruit and retain a diverse machine learning team of 10+ people based in the Montreal office at Mila
•Deliver valuable research results in a timely manner
•Establish a pattern of presenting high-quality research papers at top conferences and publishing in top journals
•Run a productive internship program, drawing students and postdocs from Mila, local universities and beyond
•Act as an ambassador for the mission within the community
•Report directly to Head of Research
Must Have Skills:
•Experience aligning research plans with desired business outcomes
•Experience establishing a culture of accountability while providing autonomy.
•Has established regular, formal channels of communication (e.g. weekly team wins meeting, written communication)
•Experience leading through ambiguity and creating clarity
•Experience attracting top talent and building high-performing teams
•PhD in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
•Experience applying modern machine learning methods to solve business problems in highly cross-functional environments.
•Experience designing and delivering applied deep learning projects for diverse computer vision, graph, or sequential tasks using modern frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow/Keras).
•Record of publications and presentations.
•Uses modern technologies to accelerate machine learning. We use Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow/Keras and the PyData libraries.
Nice to Have Skills:
•Experience working with cellular microscopy data or other biological imaging datasets, chemical datasets, or other genomic datasets is a plus. Drug discovery experience is a plus.
