Job Description

Our client incubates and funds companies. Unconstrained by industry, they originate the ideas, hire the early teams, fund, launch, and grow each company, and maintain an integral leadership role from beginning through exit.

They have collectively raised more than $2B in venture capital and employ thousands of people. On the investment side, they are one of the most active early stage funds.

They need professionals with startup experience who can wear multiple hats in a DevOps role. Someone who can take the lead for non-technical founders and product managers to scope out and continue to lay the ground work for their DevOps processes.

You’ll be working on a small team and you may be on your own sometimes, but it’s important that you be an empathetic team player who likes to talk through problems with others and share your knowledge.

Must Have Skills:

Have a combined 5+ years of professional experience in infrastructure, system administration, and/or software development;
Are extremely knowledgeable about AWS and can talk about which services to best leverage and how;
Are obsessed with excellent observability and monitoring and can drive a culture of operational metrics for infra;
Write clean, legible, and testable code (and YAML, let's be real);
Are able to make pragmatic design choices and explain tradeoffs in technical decisions;
Have experience working closely with product engineers;
Have excellent written English communication skills;
Have a proven track record of mentorship – you will be the first DevOps, but certainly not the last!

Nice to Have Skills:

Ability to pitch in on backend development every once in a while – experience with Python development is a plus;
Specific exposure to applications leveraging AWS Lambda or other serverless platforms;
Experience with security beyond configuring infrastructure, e.g. pentesting;
Experience with mobile app release management and CI/CD;
Experience working on early-stage startups and ability to talk to them about growing pains resulting from early design and technical decisions
